We have an opportunity for a performing and/or visual artist with a high level of artistic and creative practice to take part in this festival.
Tentative dates will be between the 9th and 20th October 2017, to be confirmed. Potential artists should be available between those dates, hold a passport with an expiry date post May 2018, be over the age of 18 and ideally have experience in travelling and performing or exhibiting overseas. Artists will be expected to take part in and potentially facilitate/lead workshops. People who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.
In October 2017 AAA will create opportunities for mutual learning exchanges between German and Australian artistic and cultural organisations through delivering a number of events including practical workshop style discussions on disability access, and performances and/or exhibits by some of Australia’s leading artists with disability.
These workshops/forums will include topics such as:
• Building a new audience – how and why to develop connections with various communities of people with disability
• How to support artists with disability to deliver their work, whether it be a performance or exhibition
• An overview of AAA and how a disability led organisation operates (over 50% of our organisation are people with disability), our successes and learnings
• Hands on workshop with our artists/performers to develop ideas with your guides and teachers on delivering tours and workshops to audiences/attendees with disability.
People with disability, either artists or audiences, should not be stereotyped or worse still, not considered, when staging works or exhibitions. This project is unique in its aims to incorporate mutual learning between Australia and Germany in terms of arts and disability practices as well as profiling our leading artists and performers. It will also demonstrate what can be possible through a curatorial exchange of ideas and a chance to hear direct from the artists.
