Biography
Born in Wollongong, Opal Russell studied dance at Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts and in 2017 trained with the school’s Pre-Professional Dance Company. The following year she joined Austinmer Dance Theatre.
Opal became a finalist in the 2018 Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix, and awarded with ‘Most Outstanding Female Potential’. Similarly, she was awarded ‘Most Innovative Choreography’ at Sydney’s Sharp Short Dance choreographic festival for her solo work ‘A Sigh”.
Opal has finished fulltime dance training in her Sydney Dance Company Pre-Professional Year as a scholarship student.
In 2020, Opal performed in the Sydney Festival as soloist in the full-length dance work “Colossus” by Australian choreographer Stephanie Lake.
