Biography
Born and raised a Sydney Italian girl, Monique Calarco’s love of storytelling and passion for the performing arts started at a young age. She discovered her strong contemporary and classical vocal skills in her teens with various credits including Maria (“West Side Story”), Penny (“Hairspray”) and within “The Phantom of the Opera” (premiere), to name a few.
While completing her Bachelor of Arts Degree – Theatre Studies and English Literature (Notre Dame University, ND), Monique’s performance training was highly supported by her love of English literature, film, history and analytical skills, making her a strong researcher and problem solver in her acting process and roles. Gaining both stage management and directing experience during her time at ND, she was co-writer/co-director of her third year graduating show alongside Jane Bergeron.
Monique is also a (BA) Music Theatre graduate (with Distinction) of Federation University (Sydney). Her versatility and transformative skills were prominent in productions of “Showtrain” (as Edna the Bearded Lady), “Bells are Ringing” (as Blake Barton and Inspector Barnes – Understudy), “Working the Musical” (as ‘The Mason Song’ soloist), “Into the Woods” (as Jack’s Mother) and her self-devised cabaret “You Want to Seymour”.
Monique is a passionate, goofy, warm and versatile performer. She has been onstage at the Old 505 Theatre in ‘The House at Boundary Road, Liverpool’ as Laura in addition to performing as skipping queen Brooke Wyndham in “Legally Blonde”.
In among her acting, Monique is a weekly Performance and Vocal Coach, specialising in HSC, entrant to Tertiary studies and Tertiary performers coaching.
