Biography
Belinda Jane Butterell is returning to acting after a break, having left her day job as a Police Emergency 000 Operator during the COVID era. She has since learnt that she is Autistic and ADHD with Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis.
Looking back at all the jobs in hospitality, retail, office work, real estate, and emergency services, often in management roles, and the extensive hobbies list including woodworking, gardening, DIY, mosaic, stained glass, antique furniture restoration, upholstery, cement planters and Cricut arts and craft; the AudHD diagnosis makes a lot of sense!
After a small role with Bus Stop Films in “Boss Cat” playing the nurse, their first feature film, Belinda is ready to dive back in.
Autistic people have a strong sense of justice, so Belinda and her wife were very involved in the Marriage Equality Campaign. They travelled in a delegation with Alex Greenwich to Canberra meeting with Senators to discuss the case for equality. They went on many marches; were in multiple advertisements; and their photo was placed in the Local Member Trish Doyle’s window during the YES campaign. They were also on the front page of a local newspaper during that campaign and were at the event in Sydney where Australia finally received the news that YES won!
Belinda’s wife is a psychologist, seeing mostly Autistic and ADHD children, which is how they discovered that they are both in fact Autistic and ADHD. In typical late-diagnosed female fashion, Belinda has taken a deep dive into the topic and listens in on most of her wife’s training. In addition, she attends the annual Yellow Ladybugs conferences with her to learn everything that she can about AuDHD and how to make the world easier for ‘neurospicy’ folk, in particular young girls.
Belinda has basic French and Japanese as well as a little Greek and Korean. She played many sports as a younger person. Her wife is a Kiwi, so the Kiwi accent and British accents come easily.
