Biography
Athésia is a Sydney based professional entertainer. Born in North America from Haitian parents, she is of African, French, Spanish and Taino (indigenous to the Caribbean) descent. She speaks English, French, Haitian Creole and Portuguese. She is part of Australia's emergent diaspora of Black African in the Film, Radio, Television and Music industry where her culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are being embraced.
In 2021, Athésia was selected from more than 450 applicants to be part of the 2021 Equity Screen Diversity Showcase. She was featured in TVCs such as “Youi”, “Amex” and “Qantas” and in 2023, thanks to casting director Danny Long, successfully landed the role of Milena for the short film “Souvenir “by award-winning film director Marie Renée Petropoulos, produced by Yingna Lu from Spaceboy Studio.
Besides acting, Athésia for the past decade has been a radio host and producer in Australia. Her latest podcast is airing on ABC Jazz, Australia's national broadcaster where she presents, curates and produces the show “Jazz Around the World”.
As voiceover artist Athésia has worked for SBS, Eastside Radio and ABC, recording promo advertisements. You might have also seen Athésia hosting and facilitating exclusive post-screening Q&A events for Kismet, AWMA and Dendy Cinemas among others.
Prior to these roles Athésia has been a jazz singer-songwriter for more than 15 years, performing both internationally and locally her own unique compositions whilst honouring classic jazz, French, Bossa Nova and Haitian standards. She is a passionate multi-talented entertainer who’s known for bringing positive energy on set and who possesses more than one string to her bow.
