Ashur Shimon started his career as an underwear model at Kmart for the huge promotion "Animal Instinct... Not for the Ordinary". Penrith store manager Shelly said, ‘I didn't realise how many hairy freaks there were out there in the woods!’
Since then, such damning praise helped propel his career into the entertainment industry. He successfully auditioned for the musical “Hair” but was later rejected as the Casting Director insisted, ‘He was just too hairy for our production.’
Ashur did manage to get a supporting role on Home & Away, working at a kebab van at the caravan park serving Alfie Stewart. Flaming galah – when will stereotypes ever cease!
However it was genius Director Paul Fenech who discovered Ashur and with the backing up of Comic Legend Tahir Bilgic, both of them agreed that this guy could be Australia's hairiest actor.
Starring in “Swift & Shift Couriers” and “Housos” playing the character of Abdul, Ashur has enjoyed phenomenal success. He was thrilled to work on set alongside game show king Ian Turpie and TV personality Amanda Keller. More importantly as an advocate type he believes in bringing joy into peoples’ lives and connecting with strangers on the street, which it is the greatest gift that one can ever receive.
Despite this, he remains single and desperate, living with Mum and Dad in his hometown neighbourhood of Wetherwill Park. One might consider this to be a humble step for Australia's hairiest actor but Ashur quipped, ‘Nah, I haven't hit the big time yet but once I do I'm moving to the beach to join the wanky Bondi Hipsters.’
Looking towards the future, Ashur will be busy building his dream home, fostering healthy relationships with loved ones and friends in addition to working on worthwhile projects that do make a difference.
